F2Pool Co-Founder Questions Zcash Rally as Narrative Outpaces
Zcash’s recent market rally has prompted scrutiny from F2Pool co-founder Chun Wang, who argued that the cryptocurrency’s rising valuation is being driven primarily by market narrative rather than fundamentals. According to a report published by @WuBlockchain, Wang questioned whether Zcash’s current market ranking is justified by its underlying network activity and broader utility.
Wang said a higher markets capitalization should not, by itself, be interpreted as evidence that Zcash’s fundamentals support its position among leading digital assets. He pointed to longstanding concerns involving the token’s distribution, governance and security as factors that investors should consider alongside the renewed interest in privacy-focused cryptocurrencies.
Zcash Rally Draws Debate Over Fundamentals
The comments come as privacy has regained attention as an investment narrative within the cryptocurrency market. Zcash, one of the best-known privacy-focused networks, has historically differentiated itself through technology designed to enable transactions with enhanced privacy.
Wang argued that the privacy narrative alone does not place Zcash on the same fundamental footing as networks such as Solana and Hyperliquid. He characterized the recent buying interest as “narrative buying” and said those networks have clearer real-world usage demand.
The distinction highlights a broader issue facing cryptocurrency valuations: market capitalization can rise rapidly when capital concentrates around a particular theme, even when measurable network activity or adoption does not increase at the same pace. Narrative-driven rallies are not inherently disconnected from long-term value, but they can create a sharper gap between market expectations and underlying usage.
Market Ranking Versus Network Utility
Zcash’s position in the market therefore remains a point of debate between investors focused on its privacy proposition and those placing greater weight on transaction activity, applications and demonstrated demand.
For the wider digital-asset market, the discussion underscores the difficulty of comparing projects with fundamentally different purposes. Privacy networks, smart-contract platforms and trading-focused protocols can attract capital through different mechanisms, making market capitalization an imperfect measure of relative utility.
The next question for Zcash will be whether its renewed market interest translates into sustained network demand and broader adoption, rather than remaining primarily tied to the privacy narrative that has fueled the latest rally.
