OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-6 Astra Across Work, Codex and API
According to Cointelegraph, the latest model is initially available to Pro, Enterprise and Business Premium users in Work, Codex and the API, while access for Plus and other Business users is being rolled out. OpenAI’s own documentation confirms that GPT-6 Astra is being introduced gradually across its paid plans and developer platform.
GPT-6 Astra Expands Into Professional Workflows
OpenAI describes GPT-6 Astra as its most capable model, designed for demanding tasks involving complex reasoning, software engineering, computer use, research and professional work.
The model is available in OpenAI’s API under the identifier gpt-6-astra, giving developers a direct route to integrate the system into applications and automated workflows. OpenAI also lists support for tools including web search, file search, image generation, code interpretation, computer use and hosted shell capabilities.
For Work and Codex users, Astra is being positioned for longer and more complex assignments. OpenAI says the model can handle multistep workflows across code, browsers and professional software, while also incorporating additional user instructions during an ongoing task.
Access Is Expanding in Stages
The rollout is not occurring simultaneously for every subscription tier. OpenAI says GPT-6 Astra is being introduced gradually, meaning availability can differ between ChatGPT, Work and Codex and may depend on an organization's workspace settings.
Enterprise administrators can control model access within their workspaces. Business Premium seats receive broader Astra usage in Work and Codex, while Business Standard and Plus users receive more limited access as the rollout reaches their accounts.
OpenAI has also introduced GPT-6 Pro, powered by GPT-6 Astra, for Pro, Business and Enterprise users in ChatGPT. Plus users are receiving Astra through Work and Codex as availability expands.
API Pricing and Developer Access
Developers using the API can access the model by specifying gpt-6-astra. OpenAI lists standard API pricing at $10 per 1 million input tokens and $50 per 1 million output tokens, with cached input priced at $1 per 1 million tokens.
The company says Astra is designed to deliver stronger performance while using substantially fewer output tokens in several evaluations, a factor it says can reduce estimated task costs despite the model's higher per-token pricing.
The rollout will continue expanding across eligible ChatGPT plans, with the timing of access determined by OpenAI's staged deployment and, for enterprise customers, workspace permissions.
