Crypto Market Rises as ETF Inflows and Short Liquidations Lift Demand
The crypto market advanced as institutional inflows, improving risk appetite and a wave of short liquidations supported buying across major digital assets. Bitcoin gained roughly 3.5%, while Ethereum, XRP and other cryptocurrencies also moved higher.
The rebound comes as investors continue to assess monetary-policy expectations alongside inflation, employment and consumer data that could influence the Federal Reserve's future interest-rate decisions.
Analysts cited by the source said expectations for Federal Reserve policy remain an important factor for crypto-market liquidity. Lower borrowing costs can increase available capital and encourage greater exposure to risk assets, while expectations for tighter policy can strengthen the dollar and weigh on assets that do not offer fixed yields.
Declining oil prices have provided another source of support for market sentiment by easing concerns about inflation and additional monetary tightening. Lower energy costs have also reduced pressure on Treasury yields, potentially improving the relative appeal of cryptocurrencies and technology stocks.
Bitcoin ETF Inflows Add to Crypto Market Momentum
Institutional demand has provided a significant part of the latest recovery.
According to SoSoValue data, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $433 million on September 18. The inflow reversed withdrawals recorded in the preceding sessions and coincided with improving investor confidence.
The stronger Bitcoin performance also spread into the altcoin market. XRP recorded a particularly strong response, with traders often treating the token as a higher-beta cryptocurrency relative to larger digital assets.

Leverage added another source of upward pressure. CoinGlass recorded $262 million in short liquidations as rising prices forced bearish traders to close leveraged positions.
Closing those short positions requires traders to buy back the underlying cryptocurrency, potentially reinforcing an existing market move. The liquidations therefore added momentum to the broader recovery, although they do not by themselves establish whether the advance will continue.
Market sentiment also strengthened. CoinMarketCap's Crypto Fear and Greed Index reached 78, placing sentiment in the greed category. While the reading reflects stronger risk appetite, elevated levels of optimism can also leave markets more exposed to short-term profit-taking.
Institutional Crypto Adoption Adds to Market Support
Institutional developments in digital assets have provided another backdrop for the rally.
Ripple Senior Executive Reece Merrick said Absa Corporate and Investment Banking launched Absa Digital Asset Custody using Ripple's custody technology. The service is designed to provide institutional-grade security and control for digital assets and represents a digital custody initiative under banking standards in Africa.
The development highlights continued demand for digital-asset custody infrastructure from banks and professional investors. However, the launch does not by itself indicate that Absa or other institutions are purchasing XRP.
Zcash has also remained part of the institutional digital-asset market through Grayscale's ZCSH exchange-traded fund.
Grayscale has scheduled a 3-for-1 share split for ZCSH within one month of its debut. Under an SEC filing, shareholders holding the ETF at the close of September 28 will receive two additional shares for each share they own.
The additional shares are scheduled for distribution on September 29, with split-adjusted trading beginning September 30.
The split changes the number of shares outstanding and reduces the per-share price proportionally, but does not change the total value of an investor's position or the fund's underlying net assets.
The combination of renewed Bitcoin ETF inflows, leveraged short closures and continued institutional development has contributed to the latest recovery across the crypto market, while monetary policy and broader economic data remain important factors for investors.
