CFTC Launches Frontier Forum Series With AI and Agentic Finance Roundtable
The inaugural session will focus on artificial intelligence and agentic finance and is scheduled for October 28, 2026, according to the CFTC. Cointelegraph reported the development in a post on X, citing the regulator's announcement.
CFTC Sets October 28 for First Frontier Forum
The CFTC's Innovation Task Force announced the Frontier Forum Series on September 21, describing it as a series of public discussions on technologies that are transforming U.S. financial markets. The agency said the forums will bring together participants from the public and private sectors to examine emerging technologies and evolving market structures.
The first forum, scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, will examine artificial intelligence and agentic finance. The CFTC has not yet released the agenda or list of speakers, saying those details and registration information will be posted at a later date.
The agency also said members of the public can submit speaker nominations to the Innovation Task Force. In-person participation may be limited, with visitors subject to security checks.
Focus Turns to AI and Autonomous Financial Systems
The CFTC's interest in agentic finance follows discussions within its Innovation Advisory Committee about autonomous systems capable of executing financial transactions and managing portfolios.
At an August 20 committee meeting, the CFTC identified the "Rise of Agentic Finance" as a potential discussion area, specifically pointing to autonomous agents, portfolio management, and the intersection of crypto and artificial intelligence. The committee also planned to examine how existing regulatory principles could apply to AI-enabled market participants and whether additional guidance or best practices may be appropriate.
The agency has previously examined AI's role in financial markets. In 2024, a CFTC advisory committee recommended public roundtables and direct engagement with regulated entities to better understand how AI technologies are being used and the related technical and policy considerations.
Frontier Forum Part of Broader CFTC Innovation Agenda
The Frontier Forum Series is part of the CFTC's broader innovation work. The agency currently identifies crypto assets and blockchain technologies, artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, and prediction markets and event contracts as three core innovation themes.
The CFTC said the forums are intended to provide a venue for dialogue on financial technologies while helping the Commission promote responsible innovation and protect market participants and the integrity and resilience of U.S. financial markets.
CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig said the technologies affecting financial markets are advancing rapidly and that the regulator needs direct engagement with the people building, using and studying them.
The next specific milestone is the inaugural Frontier Forum on artificial intelligence and agentic finance, set for October 28, 2026, with its agenda and speakers still to be announced.
