Cathie Wood Says AI, Blockchain and Robotics Could Lift Global GDP Above 7%
ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood said technologies including blockchain, artificial intelligence and robotics could help push global real GDP growth above 7% over the next three to five years.
Wood made the projection in comments to CNBC, according to CoinMarketCap, linking the potential acceleration in economic growth to advances across several major technology platforms. She said the technologies could collectively contribute to a substantial increase in productivity and economic output.
Wood Links Technology Convergence to Faster Growth
Wood has consistently argued that multiple emerging technologies are developing simultaneously and could reinforce one another. ARK Invest identifies artificial intelligence, robotics, energy storage, blockchain technology and multiomics sequencing as major innovation platforms shaping its economic outlook.
In a September 2026 investor letter, ARK said real GDP growth could accelerate to 7% or more, compared with the roughly 2% to 3% range that has prevailed globally since the Industrial Revolution. The firm said technology-driven productivity would be a key factor behind that potential increase.
ARK's current research places blockchain alongside AI and robotics rather than treating it as an isolated financial technology. The firm has previously described public blockchain technology as one of several platforms whose development could contribute to broader economic changes.
Blockchain Remains Part of ARK's Innovation Thesis
Wood's comments reflect ARK's broader investment framework, which focuses on the convergence of technologies rather than examining each sector independently. The firm says AI, robotics, energy storage, DNA sequencing and blockchain technology are among the innovation platforms it believes could have a significant effect on the global economy.
In its latest investor letter, ARK said technological innovation could drive real GDP growth to 7% or higher and described that figure as potentially conservative over the next five years. The firm also said productivity growth would be a major contributor markets to the projected expansion.
Wood's projection is an economic forecast rather than an established outcome. ARK itself cautions that its forecasts are inherently limited and cannot be relied upon as guaranteed results.
AI and Robotics Form Part of the Same Economic Thesis
The projection places blockchain within a broader technological transformation that includes AI and robotics. ARK has argued that falling technology costs and advances in these areas could increase productivity while changing how businesses allocate investment and resources.
Wood's latest comments therefore extend an established ARK thesis: that simultaneous progress across several technology platforms could produce an economic expansion substantially different from the growth patterns of recent decades.
For now, the 7% figure remains a forward-looking projection financial covering the next three to five years, rather than a measured forecast of current global economic growth.
