XRP Ledger Agentic Payments Surpass 13 Million as Merchant Adoption Becomes Next Focus
XRP Ledger agentic payments have surpassed 13 million transactions, with former Ripple product lead Chandler Fang identifying broader merchant adoption as the next stage of growth for automated payments using XRP and Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin.
The network has recorded 13,489,468 agentic transactions across 168 registered x402 merchants, settling 6,982.32 XRP and 12,009.98 RLUSD. RippleX engineering head J.A. Akinyele confirmed that transaction activity had exceeded his earlier projection of 10 million, while suggesting the network could reach 100 million transactions sooner than anticipated.
Fang, cofounder of t54ai, shared his outlook in response to Akinyele on X. He said transaction volumes had increased from approximately one million in July, pointing to the expansion of automated payment activity on the XRP Ledger.
XRP Ledger Agentic Payments Target Wider Merchant Adoption
Fang expects the next phase of growth to depend on more businesses and digital services integrating automated payment capabilities. Rather than focusing solely on transaction milestones, his outlook emphasizes expanding the number of services that AI agents can pay for through the XRP Ledger’s x402 facilitator.
The infrastructure enables software agents to pay for digital services directly, reducing the need for manual checkout processes. Potential applications include payments for application programming interfaces, digital information, and computing resources.
Developers are also building tools that connect payment capabilities with products designed for autonomous agents. Wider integration could increase the number of services accessible to these systems, although Fang’s expectations do not establish how quickly additional merchants will join the network.
The reported figures provide a snapshot of existing activity, while the projected expansion to 100 million transactions remains a forward-looking expectation rather than a confirmed outcome.
RippleX Outlines Controls for Automated Crypto Payments
At XRP Seoul 2026 on October 3, Akinyele discussed the infrastructure supporting payments between digital systems. He reported that agentic payments represented approximately 25% of activity on the XRP Ledger.
As automated transactions expand, Ripple’s development plans include safeguards intended to govern how AI agents interact with digital assets. These measures include verifiable identities, transaction permissions, and spending limits designed to restrict which transactions an agent can execute and the amount it can spend.
Proposed secure smart wallets would hold XRP and stablecoins while enforcing these controls on automated transactions. Such mechanisms are intended to provide boundaries for agents that initiate payments without requiring manual approval for every individual transaction.
Akinyele also highlighted XRP Ledger settlement times of three to five seconds. The speed of settlement, combined with controls over agent permissions and spending, forms part of the infrastructure being developed to support automated payments between software systems.
Transaction Growth and Merchant Integration Define the Outlook
The reported milestone highlights activity in a developing segment of blockchain payments, where software agents can initiate transactions for digital services. The number of registered merchants and the value of settlements provide measures of current network usage, while merchant integration remains central to the next stage outlined by Fang.
Whether XRP Ledger agentic payments reach 100 million transactions will depend on future activity. For now, the development plans described by RippleX focus on enabling broader use while introducing controls intended to manage the risks associated with autonomous transactions.
