South Africa’s FNB Launches Crypto Trading With VALR
First National Bank (FNB), part of South Africa’s second-largest banking group by assets, has launched a crypto investing service that allows customers to trade Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), XRP, Solana (SOL) and Tether (USDT) through its existing share-trading platform.
FNB Adds Crypto Trading Through VALR
The service was launched in partnership with VALR, a licensed local cryptocurrency exchange, according to Wu Blockchain. The arrangement brings crypto trading into FNB’s existing investment platform rather than requiring customers to use a separate service for the listed digital assets.
Customers can trade the five cryptocurrencies around the clock, with access available 24/7. The minimum transaction amount is R10, giving customers the ability to begin trading with a relatively small amount of South African rand.
Five Cryptocurrencies Available
FNB’s initial crypto offering covers BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL and USDT. The selection includes two of the largest cryptocurrencies by market presence, Bitcoin and Ethereum, alongside XRP and Solana, while USDT provides access to a dollar-pegged stablecoin.
The service is integrated into FNB’s existing share-trading platform, allowing crypto investing to be accessed alongside the bank’s established investment services. VALR provides the cryptocurrency exchange infrastructure through the partnership and is licensed locally.
More Crypto Investment Options Planned
FNB said the launch responds to growing customer demand for cryptocurrency investment options. The bank also indicated that additional crypto investment choices are planned, suggesting that the initial offering of five assets is not intended to represent the full scope of its planned cryptocurrency services.
The launch gives FNB customers access to crypto trading directly through the bank’s existing share-trading platform, with trading available 24/7 and transactions starting from R10. The initial assets available are BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL and USDT.
