Mastercard and BVNK Launch Stablecoin Platform Connecting Digital Wallets to Millions of Merchants

Mastercard and BVNK launch a platform connecting stablecoins with card payments, bank transfers and international money movement across global markets

Mastercard and BVNK introduce a platform connecting stablecoin balances with traditional payment cards and international bank transfers.

Mastercard and BVNK have launched the Global Money Platform, a service designed to connect stablecoin balances with traditional payment infrastructure and enable spending across Mastercard’s global merchant network. Announced on Thursday, Oct. 15, the platform allows banks, fintech companies and businesses to offer accounts that support both conventional currencies and stablecoins, with card payments, currency conversion and international transfers integrated into a single system.

The launch marks the first major product integration since Mastercard acquired BVNK in August. The service is intended to make digital assets more accessible for everyday payments by allowing users to spend stablecoin holdings without manually exchanging them into traditional currency beforehand.

Mastercard and BVNK Combine Traditional and Digital Payments

Through the Global Money Platform, financial institutions and businesses can provide accounts holding fiat currencies and stablecoins. The service combines real-time conversion, payment card issuance and international payouts through a single application programming interface (API).

Nuvei, Marqeta, Ontop, Beem and Almond FinTech are among the first companies integrating the platform. The arrangement gives these businesses access to infrastructure designed to connect blockchain-based money with conventional payment services.

Chris Harmse, BVNK’s co-founder and chief business officer, said the launch delivers on the commitment to combine BVNK’s technology with Mastercard’s established payment network and reputation.

Mastercard Move Extends Stablecoin Payment Reach

The platform also connects with Mastercard Move, Mastercard’s money movement service. According to the announcement, the integration provides access to more than 17 billion payment endpoints, enabling businesses to convert stablecoin balances into local-currency payments delivered directly to bank accounts.

Coverage is expected to expand in 2027 to more than 40 currencies across over 200 countries and territories. The expansion would extend the platform’s international payment capabilities beyond its initial reach.

Raj Dhamodharan, Mastercard’s executive vice president of blockchain and digital assets, said the company believes future commerce will depend on interoperability between different forms of money.

Mastercard’s BVNK Acquisition Valued at Up to $1.8 Billion

The product launch follows Mastercard’s acquisition of BVNK in August. The transaction was valued at up to $1.8 billion, including contingent payments, highlighting the company’s investment in infrastructure that connects stablecoins with established financial services.

The Global Money Platform is available through BVNK. Mastercard and BVNK also have plans that could extend the platform to tokenized deposits and commerce conducted by autonomous artificial intelligence agents.

The initiative places stablecoins within a broader payment framework rather than limiting their use to specialized cryptocurrency payment services. By combining digital-asset balances with card payments, bank transfers and international money movement, Mastercard is seeking to connect blockchain-based financial activity with its existing payment infrastructure.
