XRP Eyes $1.80 as Bulls Test Key $1.50 Resistance
XRP is facing a key technical test at $1.50, with crypto trader Dom identifying a sustained move above that level as a potential condition for a rally toward $1.80.
In his analysis, Dom said XRP needs to turn the $1.50 resistance zone into support before the market structure would provide a stronger basis for further gains. According to his analysis, XRP has traded below the level for 230 days, making a decisive monthly or daily acceptance above the barrier an important part of his setup.
The token has repeatedly encountered selling pressure between roughly $1.48 and $1.55. During its latest recovery, XRP moved back into that supply area and briefly pushed higher before sellers returned.
The resulting move left a long upper wick reaching toward $1.70, indicating that buyers were unable to maintain the advance at higher levels. XRP subsequently fell back below $1.50, leaving the resistance unbroken.
XRP Must Turn $1.50 Into Support
Dom's analysis also points to XRP testing its three-month and six-month rolling volume-weighted average prices as support. However, he places greater emphasis on whether the cryptocurrency can establish acceptance above $1.50.
A temporary move through the level would not, by itself, confirm a breakout. Instead, XRP would need to close convincingly above the resistance and then demonstrate that the former ceiling can hold as support.

The $1.50 area is therefore positioned between XRP's recent price action and Dom's next upside objective. His analysis identifies $1.80 or higher as a possible destination if the breakout is successfully established, representing approximately 20% upside from the $1.50 reference level.
Derivatives Activity Adds to XRP Breakout Setup
XRP's derivatives market has also seen increased activity, although the data does not independently confirm that a breakout will occur.
According to CoinGlass data cited in the analysis, XRP futures open interest was approximately $3.18 billion, while 24-hour futures trading volume reached about $3.90 billion.
Spot trading volume was considerably lower at roughly $717 million over the same period, underscoring the significant role derivatives markets currently play in XRP trading activity.
Open interest also increased across several major exchanges. Binance recorded a 3.15% rise, while OKX increased 6.11%, Gate rose 5.76% and MEXC gained 10.17%.
Higher open interest indicates that more futures positions are being maintained, but it does not establish the direction of XRP's next move. Leveraged positioning can amplify both gains and losses when the market moves sharply.
Long Positioning Creates Additional Liquidation Risk
Positioning on Binance showed a preference for long exposure. The exchange's XRP long-to-short account ratio reached 2.16, while the corresponding ratio among top traders was higher at 2.59.
Those figures indicate that a greater share of the measured accounts favored long positions. However, concentrated long positioning can also increase liquidation risk if XRP fails to break resistance.
A rejection around $1.50 could force leveraged traders to reduce or close positions, potentially adding selling pressure to the market. Conversely, sustained acceptance above the level would provide the technical development required by Dom's analysis for the next stage of the setup.
For now, $1.50 remains the central level in the analysis. A convincing breakout followed by a successful retest as support would strengthen the case for the $1.80 scenario, while another rejection would leave XRP within its established resistance range.
