Ripple Adds XRP and RLUSD Payments for AI Agents on XRP Ledger
Ripple has updated its XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit to support payments for online services used by artificial intelligence agents, allowing agents to make payments with XRP and RLUSD under a payments standard co-created by Stripe and Tempo.
According to Coin Bureau, the update enables AI agents to pay for services such as data and computing without requiring direct access to private keys. The software also incorporates spending limits and approved destinations intended to restrict how agents can use funds.
XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit Adds Agent Payments
The updated XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit is designed to give AI agents a mechanism for handling payments while keeping control of private keys outside the agent itself.
Under the new system, agents can make payments for online services while operating within predefined controls. Spending limits can restrict the amount an agent is permitted to use, while approved destinations can limit where payments are sent.
The approach addresses a specific operational requirement for AI agents that need to interact with paid digital services. Rather than giving an agent unrestricted control over a wallet's private keys, the payment setup establishes defined boundaries for transactions.
Coin Bureau said the updated kit supports both XRP and RLUSD, Ripple's dollar-denominated stablecoin, for AI-related payments.
Payment Standard Co-Created by Stripe and Tempo
The payment functionality uses a payments standard co-created by Stripe and Tempo.
The standard provides the framework through which AI agents can interact with online services that require payment. Its inclusion in the XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit connects the ledger's payment capabilities with an emerging infrastructure designed for machine-driven transactions.
The update therefore focuses not only on cryptocurrency transfers but also on the mechanics required for software agents to pay for digital resources without exposing sensitive wallet credentials.
Beta Software Has Different XRP and Stablecoin Requirements
The XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit remains in beta, meaning the updated payment functionality is still being tested and developed.
Ongoing payment sessions currently support XRP. Stablecoin-based sessions involving RLUSD, however, require a proposed upgrade to the XRP Ledger before that functionality can operate in the same manner.
That distinction means XRP support is available within the current beta implementation, while RLUSD support for ongoing payment sessions remains dependent on a proposed ledger-level change.
The update places payment controls, asset support and the underlying ledger infrastructure at the center of the kit's development as Ripple works to expand how AI agents can interact with paid online services.
