Pi Network’s $100 Million Fund Is Back in the Spotlight, but the Stellar Smart Contract
An old piece of news involving Pi Network Ventures and a $100 million investment fund has resurfaced online, prompting renewed discussion about the project's venture strategy and its potential plans for smart contracts.
However, the renewed circulation has also created confusion by linking Pi Network's venture fund with Stellar's smart contract ecosystem.
According to information shared by Pi Network community account @PiNetworkAL on X, the two developments are separate and should not be presented as evidence of a direct technical relationship between Pi Network and Stellar.
Pi Network Ventures announced the creation of a $100 million venture fund in May 2025. The initiative was designed to support startups and businesses building within or around the Pi Network ecosystem, with the fund consisting of both Pi and U.S. dollars.
The announcement represented a potentially significant step in Pi Network's broader ecosystem strategy. But the existence of the fund does not mean that $100 million was immediately deployed into projects, nor does it indicate that the fund would directly accelerate development of Pi Network's underlying Mainnet technology.
The distinction has become increasingly important as older information continues to circulate across social media.
Pi Network Ventures Established a $100 Million Fund
Pi Network Ventures' $100 million fund was announced as a long-term initiative intended to support ecosystem development.
Rather than functioning as a direct markets infrastructure-development budget, the venture fund was designed around strategic investments in startups and projects that could contribute to the growth of the Pi ecosystem.
This means the fund should be viewed primarily as an ecosystem investment mechanism.
Venture capital programs typically operate by identifying promising companies or projects and providing capital in exchange for an investment position or other strategic arrangements. Such investments can take time to evaluate, negotiate and deploy.
Consequently, the announcement of a $100 million fund should not automatically be interpreted as evidence that the entire amount was immediately injected into the ecosystem.
It also does not mean that Pi Network's core blockchain development would suddenly accelerate as a direct result of the fund.
The primary objective is ecosystem growth, while protocol development remains a separate technical process.
The Stellar Connection Is Where Confusion Begins
The latest wave of online discussion appears to stem from another $100 million initiative associated with Stellar.
Stellar launched its Soroban smart contract platform in March 2024 and also announced a $100 million ecosystem incentive program to encourage developers to build on the platform.
Because both Pi Network and Stellar have been associated with $100 million ecosystem funds, some social media discussions have attempted to connect the two developments.
That interpretation, however, is not supported by the information currently available.
The Pi Network Ventures fund and Stellar's ecosystem incentive fund are separate initiatives created by different blockchain projects.
The existence of similar funding figures does not establish a partnership, shared infrastructure or technical integration.
Pi Has Not Announced Stellar-Based Smart Contracts
Another claim that has circulated alongside the old news suggests that Pi Network could be developing smart contracts based on Stellar technology.
There is no confirmation in the information provided that Pi Network has officially announced such a development.
This distinction matters because smart contract infrastructure is a fundamental component of a blockchain's technical architecture.
Stellar's Soroban platform is designed to enable smart contract functionality within the Stellar ecosystem. That does not mean that another blockchain automatically adopts the same technology simply because the two projects have ecosystem initiatives of a similar size.
Without an official announcement from Pi Network, claims that Pi is building its smart contract infrastructure on Stellar should therefore be treated as speculation.
