OpenAI Launches GPT-6.1 Sol and Always-On AI Agent Dots
OpenAI has launched two new products, GPT-6.1 Sol and an always-on AI agent called Dots, expanding its offerings for professional work, coding and autonomous AI-assisted tasks. The announcements were made at OpenAI's developer event on September 29.
According to information shared by Coin Bureau, GPT-6.1 Sol is designed for coding, computer use and professional work. OpenAI describes the model as delivering performance near GPT-6 Astra at a substantially lower cost. OpenAI's developer documentation confirms pricing of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, while cached input is priced at $0.10 per million tokens.
GPT-6.1 Sol Targets Professional Work
GPT-6.1 Sol is positioned as a model for complex coding, computer-use tasks and professional workflows. OpenAI's documentation describes it as offering near-Astra performance at a lower cost, while the company's safety documentation says GPT-6.1 Sol uses the same safeguards stack as GPT-6 Astra.
The pricing structure cited by Coin Bureau is $2 per million input tokens, $10 per million output tokens and $0.10 per million cached input tokens. Those figures are also reflected in OpenAI's current API pricing information.
The lower pricing is intended to make access to the model's capabilities more economical for applications that require substantial amounts of AI processing.
Dots Introduces an Always-On AI Agent
OpenAI's second major launch is Dots, an always-on AI agent powered by GPT-6 Astra. Unlike a conventional chatbot that waits for individual prompts, Dots is designed to continue working on tasks and projects across connected applications.
OpenAI says Dots can get to know what matters to users and continue working on their behalf in the background.
Coin Bureau said the agent can connect finance to more than 4,000 apps, manage multiple projects and learn from user feedback. Reporting on the launch also describes Dots as operating through a cloud computer and interacting with applications used for ongoing work.
The agent approach represents a shift from AI systems focused primarily on answering individual requests toward systems capable of pursuing longer-running objectives. OpenAI has also introduced controls intended to let users manage what Dots can do and prevent unauthorized changes to data.
OpenAI Expands Beyond Traditional Chatbots
The two launches arrive as OpenAI broadens its focus from conversational AI toward models and agents designed to perform practical work. GPT-6.1 Sol addresses the cost and performance requirements of professional markets workloads, while Dots is designed to maintain ongoing tasks across applications.
For OpenAI, the September 29 announcements put both the model's pricing and the agent's ability to operate continuously at the center of its latest product expansion. GPT-6.1 Sol is now documented as part of the company's GPT-6 model lineup, while Dots is being developed as an always-on agent built
