Ontology and Injective Hit by Block Halts as Injective Faces Suspected $4.9 Million

Layer-1 blockchain networks Ontology and Injective experienced disruptions to block production around Aug. 31 amid security concerns, with Injective reportedly affected by a suspected exploit involving $4.9 million.

According to information published by @WuBlockchain, Ontology initially paused its mainnet as a precaution before reporting on Sept. 1 that it had identified malicious activity targeting the network. Ontology said user assets were not compromised.

Injective Resumes Network Operations Without Rollback

Injective, a finance-focused Layer 1 incubated by Binance, experienced a more prolonged interruption, stopping block production for about 3 hours and 42 minutes before network activity resumed.

QuickNode recorded a network-wide stall and subsequently reported an emergency patch. Injective resumed operations without a rollback, meaning the network did not revert its blockchain history as part of the recovery process.

The incident places particular attention on the resilience of Layer-1 networks when security vulnerabilities emerge. Temporary halts can be used as a defensive measure to prevent potentially malicious transactions from progressing while developers investigate the underlying issue.
