London Stock Exchange Partners With Kraken Parent Payward on Tokenized

London Stock Exchange partners with Payward to explore tokenized equities, blockchain infrastructure and xStocks trading on LSE 24 in 2027.

The London Stock Exchange (LSE) has partnered with Payward, the parent company of Kraken, to explore the integration of regulated capital markets infrastructure with blockchain-based ecosystems, including a potential market for tokenized equities in the UK.

According to information published by @WuBlockchain, the partnership will examine wallet-based access, blockchain infrastructure and connectivity between on-chain networks and the regulated market ecosystem operated by LSEG. The initiative is also expected to explore a framework for UK tokenized equities.

LSE and Payward Explore Tokenized Stock Infrastructure

A key part of the partnership is the potential listing and trading of xStocks on LSE 24, the London Stock Exchange’s 24-hour trading venue. Subject to regulatory approval, the LSE plans to list and trade xStocks through the venue in 2027.

The proposed arrangement would connect blockchain-based financial products with established exchange infrastructure, potentially creating a more direct link between digital-asset technology and traditional capital markets.

The focus on wallet connectivity is also significant. Rather than treating blockchain infrastructure as a separate financial system, the project will examine how users and digital assets can interact with regulated market infrastructure while maintaining the requirements associated with an established exchange environment.

Tokenized Equities Gain Attention From Traditional Markets

The initiative reflects the broader push among financial institutions and market operators to examine tokenization as a potential component of future capital-market infrastructure. The involvement of the LSE and Payward places the development at the intersection of traditional securities markets and the growing digital-asset sector.

For crypto markets, access to established financial infrastructure could expand the potential distribution and trading environment for tokenized securities. For traditional exchanges, blockchain-based infrastructure offers another avenue for developing market connectivity and potentially extending trading access beyond conventional market hours.

The immediate focus will now shift toward the regulatory and infrastructure work required to determine how the proposed UK tokenized equity structure can operate. Regulatory approval will remain a key condition before the planned 2027 xStocks listing and trading activity on LSE 24 can proceed.
