DeepSeek Releases V4.1-Flash-1017 With Faster Performance and Improved AI Reasoning
Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek has released DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017, an updated open-weight AI model that the company says delivers stronger reasoning, coding, AI agent, and visual capabilities while completing tasks faster and generating fewer output tokens.
Announced on October 17, 2026, the release is an update to the earlier DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash model. According to Coin Bureau DeepSeek's official documentation, the updated version improves performance across its reported benchmarks while reducing task execution time and output length, potentially lowering the cost of completing AI-powered tasks.
The model is available under the MIT License, allowing developers to access and use its released weights under the license's terms. DeepSeek has published the model through its official repositories on Hugging Face and ModelScope.
DeepSeek Reports Improvements Across 11 Benchmarks
DeepSeek's published benchmark table shows higher scores for V4.1-Flash-1017 than for the previous version across all 11 reported tests. The evaluations cover coding, software development, automated workflows, reasoning, and visual tasks.
Among the reported results, Terminal-Bench 4.0 increased to 42.3 from 31.2, while ProgramBench rose to 29.1 from 20.3. The DeepSWE v1.1 score also improved, reaching 77.0 compared with 74.2 for the previous model.
Other reported gains include Automation-Bench v1.0.6, which increased from 54.8 to 60.5, and Agents' Last Exam, which rose from 31.8 to 35.4. On the Humanity's Last Exam benchmark without tools, the updated model scored 42.6, up from 36.8.
These figures come from DeepSeek's own published evaluations. The company has not provided independent verification of all the reported results, so the benchmark improvements should be understood as company-reported performance rather than independently confirmed rankings.
Faster Tasks and Shorter AI Outputs
Beyond benchmark scores, DeepSeek says the update reduces the time required to complete tasks and the number of output tokens generated. Shorter outputs can reduce token consumption, while faster execution can help improve the efficiency of applications that rely on repeated model calls.
These changes could be particularly relevant for AI agents and coding systems that perform multi-step tasks, including writing code, navigating development workflows, and using tools to complete projects. DeepSeek identifies DeepSeek Harness, Tencent CodeBuddy, and WorkBuddy among the environments optimized for the updated model.
However, DeepSeek has not published specific figures quantifying the reduction in task execution time or output length in its announcement. The exact savings will therefore depend on the workload, prompts, and implementation used by developers.
Open-Weight Model Supports Text and Images
DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017 supports both text and image processing, extending its use beyond text-only applications. Its visual capabilities are reflected in reported results for benchmarks including BabyVision and Chartography.
On BabyVision with tools, the updated model scored 92.5, compared with 89.6 for the previous version. Its Chartography score with tools increased to 83.0 from 78.9. DeepSeek also reported an improvement on ZeroBench-main with tools, from 49.0 to 51.0.
The release gives developers access to an updated model that combines coding and reasoning improvements with visual processing and agent-oriented capabilities. Its MIT-licensed weights also provide an option for teams seeking to inspect, deploy, or adapt an open-weight model within their own systems.
Although the reported results indicate markets progress over the previous release, performance can vary depending on the benchmark, testing setup, and task. DeepSeek's published figures offer an initial comparison, but further independent testing will help establish how consistently the improvements translate into real-world applications.
