DeepSeek Eyes Shanghai IPO at Potential $75 Billion Valuation
Chinese artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek is preparing for a potential initial public offering in Shanghai as it seeks additional capital to fund rising spending on computing infrastructure, AI model development, talent and in-house chip technology.
According to Coin Bureau, the company could pursue a valuation of as much as $75 billion in a new financing round ahead of the listing. DeepSeek raised $7.4 billion in June at a valuation of more than $50 billion, underscoring the rapid increase in investor interest surrounding one of China’s most closely watched AI companies.
Reuters reported on Sept. 9 that DeepSeek had engaged CITIC Securities to prepare for an IPO on Shanghai’s technology-focused STAR Market, with the company aiming to begin the process within the year. Reuters also reported that the eventual IPO size and valuation had not been finalized.
DeepSeek Expands Capital Needs as AI Competition Intensifies
The latest fundraising effort reflects the increasingly capital-intensive nature of frontier AI development. DeepSeek is directing funds toward computing capacity, model research, engineering talent and the development of its own chips as competition among Chinese AI companies accelerates.
The company’s June financing round raised approximately $7.4 billion and valued DeepSeek at more than $50 billion, according to the figures cited by Coin Bureau. Reuters previously reported that the June transaction involved roughly 50 billion yuan, with the financing potentially valuing DeepSeek between $52 billion and $59 billion at the time.
A subsequent fundraising round could lift the company’s valuation to $75 billion, according to the Coin Bureau report. Other reporting has placed the potential valuation in a similar range, with Reuters previously citing plans for a fresh round at about 500 billion yuan, or $74 billion, ahead of a potential mainland listing.
Shanghai Listing Would Mark a New Stage for DeepSeek
A domestic listing would give DeepSeek access to public-market capital at a time when Chinese AI companies are seeking financial substantial funding to expand computing infrastructure and maintain their competitive position.
DeepSeek’s potential IPO also comes amid a broader wave of Chinese AI companies pursuing public-market funding. The company’s progress will depend on the completion of its fundraising plans, regulatory processes and decisions over the eventual size and valuation of the Shanghai offering.
The next key milestone is whether DeepSeek advances its IPO preparation on the STAR Markets and whether its new financing round ultimately establishes a valuation near the reported $75 billion target.
