Binance Wallet Removes Native Gas Token Requirement With USDT Payments
Binance Wallet now allows users to pay blockchain transaction fees with USDT across BNB Smart Chain, Ethereum, Solana and TRON, removing the need to hold each network’s native gas token before completing transactions.
According to information shared by Wu Blockchain, the feature enables users to use USDT for gas payments on the four supported networks. Binance said additional networks will be added later, expanding the availability of the payment option beyond the networks currently supported.
USDT Can Cover Network Fees
The change addresses a requirement that users typically face when moving assets across different blockchain networks: maintaining a balance of the network’s native token to cover transaction fees.
With Binance Wallet’s new functionality, users can instead pay gas fees using USDT on BNB Smart Chain, Ethereum, Solana and TRON. This means a user holding USDT does not need to separately acquire the native gas token of a supported network solely to complete a transaction, according to the information provided by Binance.
The feature applies across four major blockchain networks, each of which uses different native assets for transaction fees. By allowing USDT to be used for gas payments, Binance Wallet brings the fee payment process into the wallet’s existing stablecoin balance.
Support for More Networks Planned
Binance said the current rollout covers BNB Smart Chain, Ethereum, Solana and TRON, while support for additional networks will be introduced later.
The announcement does not specify which networks will be added or provide a timeline for their integration. For now, the four networks represent the scope of the newly supported USDT gas-payment functionality.
The change also keeps the payment mechanism within Binance Wallet rather than requiring users to acquire native tokens separately before initiating transactions. The specific transaction fee is still associated with the underlying blockchain network, while USDT serves as the asset used to settle the gas payment.
Binance Expands USDT Utility in Wallet
USDT is already supported across multiple blockchain networks, but transaction fees have traditionally required users to maintain the relevant native asset. Binance Wallet’s update changes that requirement for transactions on the four networks included in the rollout.
For users operating across BNB Smart Chain, Ethereum, Solana and TRON, the feature provides a single stablecoin-based option for paying gas fees. Binance’s stated plan to add more networks will determine the eventual scope of the functionality.
