Yellow Faces XRP Community Backlash Over Reported 20,000 XRP Token Sales
Yellow, a blockchain project backed by Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen, is facing criticism from members of the XRP community following reports that transactions worth approximately 20,000 XRP were made during its token launch. The dispute centers on trading activity involving a wallet reportedly associated with the project’s development team and an explanation that the transactions were part of an arbitrage strategy.
The controversy escalated on November 4 after XRPL developer Kaj Leroy questioned the transactions in a post on X. His comments prompted a public disagreement with XRP influencer JC Rivera, who had criticized community members for reacting negatively to emerging projects without fully understanding their operations.
Yellow Team's Reported Arbitrage Explanation
Yellow launched its token on both Ethereum and the XRP Ledger, enabling trading across the two blockchain networks. During the initial trading period, the token reportedly traded at different prices, with its XRPL market recording higher valuations than the Ethereum market.
The price difference reportedly developed amid strong demand and the absence of a direct bridge connecting the two networks. At the same time, questions emerged over token sales involving a wallet said to be associated with Yellow's development team.
Project representative Burak Cem reportedly described the transactions as "team wallet arbitraging" in private conversations. That explanation suggested the activity was intended to reduce price differences between the Ethereum and XRPL markets.
However, the explanation did not resolve concerns among some XRP community members, particularly over the timing of the reported transactions shortly after trading began.
Kaj Leroy Challenges the Reported 20,000 XRP Transactions
The dispute became more public after JC Rivera defended emerging projects in the XRPL ecosystem, arguing that community members sometimes criticize unfamiliar initiatives before understanding how they operate.
Leroy challenged that position by questioning Yellow's trading activity. He alleged that developers had "dumped 20k xrp worth on their holders" shortly after the token began trading.
The XRPL developer also disputed the arbitrage justification, arguing that the reported activity was inconsistent with the goal of attracting users to a new project. The exchange exposed differing views within the XRP community over transparency, token distribution and the conduct expected from projects launching on the ledger.
Chris Larsen's $10 Million Investment Puts Yellow in the Spotlight
Yellow has attracted attention partly because Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen previously made a personal investment of $10 million in the project. The funding established a connection between Yellow and the broader XRP ecosystem.
The project plans to develop clearing infrastructure for AI agents, with the aim of supporting automated financial transactions. Its reported token-launch activity has now become a point of debate among community members following Leroy's criticism.
However, the publicly available exchange does not independently establish who owns the wallet involved in the disputed transactions. Yellow has also not issued additional official clarification addressing the criticism, leaving the reported arbitrage explanation and the circumstances surrounding the transactions unresolved.
