Canton Network DeFi TVL Climbs 65% Since August to Reach $13.42 Million
Canton Network's decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem has recorded steady growth since August, with its total value locked (TVL) reaching $13.42 million, representing an increase of approximately 65% over the past two months.
Although the figure remains relatively small compared with major blockchain networks, the upward trend suggests expanding activity across Canton's DeFi applications. The development comes as the network continues to position itself as infrastructure for institutional financial markets rather than focusing exclusively on traditional decentralized finance.
Canton Network DeFi Growth and Market Valuation
Data from DefiLlama showed that Canton Network's DeFi TVL stood at $12.21 million on October 26, 2026. At the same time, Canton Coin (CC) had a market capitalization of approximately $3.97 billion.
The difference between the network's locked DeFi capital and its token market valuation highlights the distinct characteristics of Canton's ecosystem. Its institutional infrastructure and financial settlement activities extend beyond the applications typically measured through DeFi TVL.
DefiLlama also recorded $21.71 million in 24-hour decentralized exchange (DEX) trading volume. However, the network's seven-day DEX volume change was negative 11.32%, indicating that trading activity had fluctuated despite the broader increase in TVL.
Canton Network Focuses on Institutional Blockchain Infrastructure
Canton Network's relatively modest DeFi TVL is partly linked to its original design and intended use cases. Launched in May 2023 by Digital Asset and a group of financial market participants, the network was developed as a privacy-enabled and interoperable blockchain designed to support institutional assets.
Organizations identified among the participants at launch included Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas, Deutsche Boerse Group, Microsoft and S&P Global.
Unlike blockchain ecosystems primarily associated with public DeFi applications, Canton is designed to facilitate financial institutions' use of blockchain technology while maintaining privacy and interoperability between different systems.
How Canton Coin Supports Network Activity
Canton Coin (CC) serves as the network's utility token. According to the Canton Network FAQ, its economic model is designed to reward actual network usage rather than speculative activity.
Network contributors can continuously mint rewards in recognition of their participation and contributions to the ecosystem. This approach links the token's distribution mechanism to activity taking place across the network.
The model reflects Canton's broader objective of supporting institutional blockchain adoption through an infrastructure designed around real-world financial activity.
Institutional Tokenization Extends Beyond DeFi TVL
One important distinction when evaluating Canton Network is that total value locked does not capture every form of economic activity taking place on the blockchain. The metric primarily measures capital deposited in DeFi-style smart contracts, while institutional settlement represents another significant part of Canton's operations.
In December 2025, the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), Digital Asset and Canton Network announced a partnership focused on enabling the tokenization of US Treasury securities held in DTC custody on Canton.
This institutional initiative illustrates why the network's overall activity cannot be assessed through DeFi TVL alone. Financial settlement and the movement of tokenized assets may take place outside the applications measured by conventional DeFi metrics.
For Canton Network, the next important indicator will be whether its recent TVL expansion continues as additional applications and financial assets enter the ecosystem. Sustained growth could provide a clearer picture of how its institutional infrastructure and decentralized finance activities develop over time.
