Ripple to Unlock 1 Billion XRP on November 1 as Previous 500 Million Token Allocations Remain Untouched
Ripple is scheduled to release 1 billion XRP from its escrow accounts on November 1, 2026, under its monthly token release program. The upcoming unlock comes as two Ripple-controlled wallets continue to hold a combined 1 billion XRP from the previous month's release, according to on-chain data cited in the source report.
The scheduled release could increase the amount of XRP available outside escrow, but it does not mean Ripple will sell all the tokens. The company's historical practice has involved returning a substantial portion of each monthly allocation to escrow while retaining the remainder for operational requirements, liquidity provision, and ecosystem activities.
Ripple's November XRP Unlock Faces an Unusual Supply Situation
The November release involves two escrow accounts, each containing 500 million XRP. As of October 29, two Ripple-controlled wallets still held 500 million XRP apiece from the October 1 release. Neither wallet had recorded an outgoing payment since receiving those tokens, according to the reported on-chain data.
This means Ripple could gain access to another 1 billion XRP while the previous month's allocation remains in the company's wallets. However, the scheduled date alone does not confirm that the tokens have been released or transferred.
Ripple must submit an EscrowFinish transaction to complete the release. Until that transaction is executed, the scheduled unlock should not be treated as a confirmed movement of funds or a sale of XRP.
How Ripple's Monthly XRP Escrow System Works
Ripple introduced its escrow program in December 2017, placing 55 billion XRP into time-locked contracts. That amount represented 55% of XRP's maximum supply of 100 billion tokens.
The system was designed to make the token's supply more predictable through scheduled monthly releases of up to 1 billion XRP. Tokens not needed from a given allocation can be placed into new escrow contracts rather than immediately entering circulation.
On-chain tracking indicates that Ripple re-locked approximately 700 million XRP, equivalent to 70% of each monthly release, over the 12 months through October 2026. This left approximately 300 million XRP outside escrow each month for operational needs, liquidity provision, and ecosystem activities.
If the company follows the same pattern in November, the scheduled release would not necessarily translate into an equivalent increase in circulating supply. The actual amount retained outside escrow will depend on Ripple's transactions.
XRP ETF Outflows Add to Market Concerns
The upcoming unlock comes as XRP faces a challenging market environment. U.S. spot XRP exchange-traded funds recorded $3.61 million in outflows during the week leading up to October 29, raising questions about institutional demand for the cryptocurrency.
However, accumulation by large holders has continued. As reported by Finbold, wallets holding at least 10 million XRP collectively controlled 46.87 billion tokens, representing approximately 68.5% of the circulating supply.
These figures point to differing developments across the market, with ETF outflows occurring alongside substantial XRP holdings among large wallet addresses. The available data does not establish how either trend will affect the price following the scheduled escrow release.
XRP Price Trades Below Key Moving Averages
XRP was trading at $1.24 at the time of the source report, down approximately 0.9% over 24 hours and more than 2% over the previous week.
The token was trading below its 50-day simple moving average of $1.39 and its 200-day simple moving average of $1.28. These levels indicated a bearish technical outlook at the time of reporting.
However, the 50-day moving average remained above the 200-day average, meaning a longer-term bearish crossover had not yet occurred.
XRP's 14-day Relative Strength Index stood at 37.46, signaling weakening momentum while remaining above the conventional oversold threshold of 30.
The technical indicators suggest that XRP remained vulnerable to further declines, although stronger buying pressure could help the token recover toward the $1.28 200-day moving average, identified in the source analysis as an initial technical hurdle.
