Ripple Returns 700 Million XRP Worth More Than $1.05 Billion to Escrow
BSCN reported the move in a post on X, citing blockchain tracker Whale Alert. The transactions followed Ripple’s scheduled release of 1 billion XRP from escrow at the beginning of October.
Whale Alert recorded the return in two separate transactions involving 400 million XRP and 300 million XRP. The transfers placed the combined 700 million XRP back under escrow arrangements after the monthly release.
Ripple’s Monthly XRP Escrow Cycle
The latest transactions are part of a recurring process in which Ripple releases up to 1 billion XRP from escrow each month. The company subsequently returns a portion of the unlocked tokens to escrow, creating a recurring cycle of releases and re-locks.
According to BSCN, the October release preceded the latest 700 million XRP return. The sequence means that the full 1 billion XRP released during the monthly event was not retained outside escrow.
Whale Alert’s transaction records confirm the two latest escrow movements. One transaction involved 400 million XRP, while another locked 300 million XRP at Ripple.
The combined amount represents 70% of the 1 billion XRP released during the monthly cycle. The remaining 300 million XRP was not included in the two re-lock transactions described in the BSCN report.
How Ripple Manages XRP Supply
Ripple’s escrow system was established to create a predictable schedule for releasing XRP held by the company. The monthly process allows up to 1 billion XRP to become available while enabling unused tokens to be placed into new escrow arrangements.
Recent transactions show that the mechanism remains active in 2026. In September, for example, Ripple also returned 700 million XRP to escrow after its monthly release, according to BSCN and Whale Alert records. That September re-lock was split into transactions of 500 million and 200 million XRP.
The October transactions follow the same broad pattern, although the individual transaction sizes differ. Whale Alert recorded the 400 million XRP and 300 million XRP locks on Oct. 1, with the transactions occurring shortly after the monthly release.
700 Million XRP Returned to Escrow
The latest reshuffling does not by itself establish that the remaining XRP outside escrow has been sold or moved into the market. The transactions documented by Whale Alert specifically show XRP being locked at Ripple.
The 700 million XRP returned to escrow is valued at more than $1.05 billion based on the valuation cited by BSCN. The transaction records show the value of the 400 million XRP transfer at roughly $597.5 million and the 300 million XRP transfer at roughly $447.9 million at the recorded transaction times.
The latest activity leaves the monthly escrow cycle at its next stage, with the 700 million XRP returned to locked arrangements following the October release of 1 billion XRP.
