Ripple Integrates Stripe-Owned Privy Wallets Into XRP Ledger as AI Payments Surpass 14 Million

Ripple integrates Privy wallet infrastructure into the XRP Ledger as AI payment transactions exceed 14.3 million across 169 merchants.

Ripple is integrating wallet infrastructure from Privy, a Stripe-owned company, into the XRP Ledger (XRPL), giving developers tools to create cryptocurrency wallets within financial applications and enable automated payments by artificial intelligence agents. The move comes as data from an XRPL-focused dashboard shows more than 14.3 million cumulative transactions across AI payment services.

The integration allows applications to create wallets that can hold digital assets and authorize transfers involving XRP, Ripple's dollar-pegged RLUSD stablecoin, and other assets issued on the network. Developers can embed the wallet functionality directly into their products rather than requiring users to manage separate wallet software.

Privy Brings Embedded Wallets to XRP Ledger Applications

Privy provides the underlying wallet infrastructure, reducing the amount of wallet technology application developers need to build themselves. Its tools also support exporting private keys or a recovery phrase, allowing users to move wallets elsewhere.

The integration could help payment providers offer dollar-linked transfers without requiring customers to handle the secret keys used to authorize transactions. It also creates options for companies building services that allow automated software to hold funds and pay for online services.

According to Privy's documentation, wallets operated from company servers can enable software to control and spend funds. This functionality can work with x402, a payment standard designed to facilitate payments for access to data and other online services.

AI Agents Can Pay for Data and Online Services

Under this model, an AI agent requesting paid data could receive a payment request, authorize the transaction and access the requested information after the payment is verified. The process allows software to pay for individual requests without requiring a person to open a checkout page for every transaction.

Businesses could provide AI agents or automated bots with funded wallets to cover service costs. Such applications could support machine-to-machine payments in which software independently completes transactions associated with tasks assigned by users.

CoinDesk asked the XRP Ledger Foundation about applications already using the integration and for data showing the proportion of network payment activity attributable to AI agents. The available report does not provide a response from the foundation.

XRP Ledger AI Payment Transactions Exceed 14.3 Million

The wallet integration arrives amid growing reported activity involving AI-related payments on the XRP Ledger. RippleX Head of Engineering J. Ayo Akinyele said on X last week that the network had processed more than 13 million agent payments through x402, accounting for roughly 25% of ledger activity.

Separate figures from the XRPL AI Hub, operated by payment infrastructure developer t54, showed more than 14.3 million cumulative transactions across 169 registered merchants as of Wednesday.

However, the transaction count does not correspond to an equally large volume of funds transferred. The dashboard recorded cumulative payments of approximately 6,991 XRP and 12,752 RLUSD, indicating that many transactions involved relatively small amounts.

The figures are consistent with automated software making frequent, low-value payments for individual data requests or other online services rather than primarily processing large financial transfers.

Ripple Expands Tools for Automated Payments

Ripple began providing developers with tools for AI-related payments in June. The initial capabilities allowed agents to create wallets, check balances and pay for services using XRP or RLUSD.

In September, Ripple expanded the toolkit to support a payment standard developed by Stripe and payments blockchain Tempo. The update also introduced a way to fund repeated requests with XRP instead of settling each request separately.

The latest Privy integration extends the wallet infrastructure available to developers building financial applications and automated payment systems on the XRP Ledger. The reported transaction figures point to substantial activity by count, although the cumulative payment values remain comparatively modest.
