Porsche is winding down its Web3 project and PIONEERS CIRCLE community, bringing an end to an initiative built around its 911 NFT collection and broader experiments with digital ownership and community engagement.

The automaker announced the conclusion of the Porsche Web3 project and Pioneers Circle, according to Cointelegraph. The 911 NFTs will remain with their existing holders and continue to exist onchain, while the project's Discord community will be converted into a read-only archive. Porsche will also stop actively updating its X account for the initiative.

Porsche’s Web3 Project Comes to an End

The initiative began with Porsche's entry into the NFT market and was designed to connect its automotive brand with digital collectibles and a dedicated online community. Porsche previously described PIONΞERS CIRCLE as a community for NFT holders, with the project intended to combine digital experiences with physical events and opportunities for community participation.

The company's 911 NFT collection launched in January 2023 with a planned supply of 7,500 tokens. Porsche subsequently stopped the mint after criticism surrounding the collection's pricing and utility, leaving the final supply at 2,363 NFTs, Cointelegraph reported.

Porsche had initially positioned the project as a longer-term Web3 initiative. When the automaker outlined its plans in 2022, Lutz Meschke, then Porsche's deputy chairman, described the company's commitment as being "for the long haul," while pointing to potential applications involving the metaverse, purchasing experiences and supply chains.

911 NFTs Will Remain Onchain

Although Porsche is ending active development of the Web3 project and its community operations, the NFTs themselves are not being removed from the blockchain. Existing holders will retain their 911 NFTs, with the digital assets continuing to exist onchain.

The decision marks a change from Porsche's earlier approach, which emphasized ongoing interaction between NFT holders and the company. Porsche's own materials described the collection as an effort to blend physical and digital experiences, while its community was intended to give holders a role in shaping aspects of the project.

Trading activity has also declined significantly from the collection's earlier levels. Cointelegraph, citing OpenSea data, reported roughly $20 million in cumulative trading volume for the collection, compared with about $38,000 over the previous year and approximately $2,900 over the previous month.

The project's Discord will now serve as a read-only archive rather than an active community channel, while Porsche's X account for the initiative will no longer receive regular updates. Those changes effectively mark the final stage of Porsche's dedicated Web3 experiment while leaving the existing 911 NFTs onchain.
