Kalshi Traders Put 84% Odds on Fed Holding Rates This Month
The figure represents a prediction-market assessment rather than an official indication of the Federal Reserve’s decision. Kalshi contracts allow participants to trade on the outcomes of economic and policy events, with prices reflecting the market-implied probability of each outcome.
Fed Rate-Hold Odds Rise
Whale Insider reported that the odds of the Federal Reserve maintaining its current rate had risen to 84% among Kalshi traders. The post did not provide a timestamp for when the figure was recorded or identify the corresponding alternative outcome.
The Federal Reserve’s next scheduled policy meeting is set for October 27-28, 2026.
Kalshi’s market tracks whether the Federal Open Market Committee changes its target range at the October meeting. The contract is ultimately resolved using the Federal Reserve’s official decision.
Market Pricing Is Not a Fed Decision
The 84% figure should be interpreted as the probability implied by Kalshi trading activity rather than a forecast issued by Federal Reserve officials.
Kalshi’s own reporting has shown that expectations for the October meeting have shifted as new economic information became available. On Sept. 30, the platform reported that traders had moved to pricing a 65% chance of a rate hold, compared with 33% for a 25-basis-point increase.
The latest figure cited by Whale Insider therefore represents a higher reported probability for unchanged rates than the 65% level Kalshi reported on Sept. 30.
Federal Reserve Policy Remains Pending
The Fed most recently set its federal funds target range at 3.75% to 4% following its September 15-16 meeting. The central bank’s implementation note confirmed that range effective Sept. 17.
The October meeting will be the next opportunity for policymakers to adjust that range. The Federal Reserve has scheduled its policy decision and press conference for Oct. 28.
Until the FOMC announces its decision, the Kalshi figure remains a market-based probability rather than a confirmed policy outcome.
