Hyperliquid Burns Nearly 50 Million HYPE Tokens as Lifetime Revenue Surpasses $1.38 Billion

Hyperliquid has burned 49.87 million HYPE tokens as lifetime revenue tops $1.38 billion, but monthly token unlocks still exceed buybacks.

Hyperliquid burns HYPE tokens through automated buybacks while scheduled monthly token unlocks continue to increase circulating supply.

Hyperliquid has permanently removed 49.87 million HYPE tokens from circulation, equivalent to nearly 5% of its maximum supply of 1 billion tokens. The token burns come as the decentralized trading platform's lifetime revenue has exceeded $1.38 billion, although scheduled token unlocks continue to add substantially more HYPE to circulation than current buybacks remove.

On-chain monitoring data puts the combined value of the burned tokens at $3.89 billion based on the current market rate. Hyperliquid's mechanism uses protocol fee revenue to purchase HYPE on the open market, with the acquired tokens then permanently removed from circulation.

Hyperliquid Directs Trading Fees Toward HYPE Buybacks

The buyback mechanism relies on the Assistance Fund, a system smart contract that has no private keys. In December 2025, network validators voted to officially recognize the fund's balance as burned, with 85% of validators supporting the decision.

Between 97% and 99% of Hyperliquid's exchange trading fees are directed to the fund, according to the supplied figures. Over the latest 24-hour period, the mechanism burned 19,700 HYPE tokens, valued at approximately $1.59 million, while the protocol generated $1.69 million in fees.

Hyperliquid generated $63.52 million in revenue over the past 30 days. Its cumulative revenue has now surpassed $1.38 billion, providing the fee base that supports its automated token buybacks.

Additional Mechanisms Contribute to Token Burning

Beyond its standard trading-fee mechanism, Hyperliquid's ecosystem includes several other automated channels associated with deflationary activity. These include AQAv2 yield routing, gas burning on HyperEVM, and developer penalties under HIP-3.

The amount of HYPE removed through buybacks depends on the token's market price because purchases are denominated in US dollars. With HYPE trading around $78 to $80, a given amount of fee revenue buys fewer tokens than it would at lower prices.

Monthly Token Unlocks Outpace Current Burns

Hyperliquid's longer-term supply dynamics depend on whether token buybacks can consistently offset scheduled vesting for the team and early contributors. Those unlocks add approximately 9.9 million HYPE tokens to circulation each month.

At the current burn rate of 19,700 tokens per day, the mechanism would remove roughly 591,000 HYPE per month. That would offset only about 6% of the monthly unlocks described in the supplied data.

As a result, circulating HYPE supply can continue to expand despite the substantial cumulative token burn. The latest figures show that buybacks remove tokens from circulation, but their current pace remains well below the amount entering circulation through scheduled unlocks.
