Bitcoin and XRP Sentiment Turn Bearish as Ethereum FOMO Rises, Santiment Data Shows
Bitcoin and XRP are facing increasingly bearish social sentiment, while Ethereum has emerged as the favorite among cryptocurrency discussions, according to analytics firm Santiment. Data shared by the company on X on October 13 showed sentiment ratios of 0.82 for Bitcoin and 0.92 for XRP, meaning bullish comments remained below bearish comments across X, Reddit and Telegram.
Ethereum showed the opposite trend, with 2.05 bullish remarks for every bearish one. Santiment characterized the shift as fear of missing out (FOMO), highlighting a growing contrast in how social media users view the three major cryptocurrencies amid recent price volatility.
Bitcoin Sentiment Weakens After Repeated $87,000 Rejections
Bitcoin's social sentiment deteriorated after the cryptocurrency repeatedly failed to break through the $87,000 level before retreating toward $81,000. Heavy liquidations of leveraged long positions and broader economic pressures also weighed on market confidence.
The latest bearish reading contrasts with Bitcoin's sentiment spike on September 21, when optimism reached its strongest level since December 2024 as BTC climbed above $87,300.
Santiment's reading of 0.82 bullish comments per bearish comment indicates that negative discussion currently outweighs positive commentary. Both Bitcoin and XRP remain below the 1.0 threshold, which would indicate an equal number of bullish and bearish remarks.
XRP Sentiment Falls as Price Struggles Near $1.40
XRP recorded a sentiment ratio of 0.92, placing it in a similar environment of negative market commentary. Santiment linked the pessimism to the token's recent price decline and pressure on leveraged traders.
The firm stated: “$XRP has fallen more than 9% over the past week, with leveraged longs getting flushed and the $1.40 area proving difficult to reclaim.”
The negative sentiment follows a period of increased XRP network activity during September. As the token moved above $1.60 on September 22, Santiment recorded 1,917 XRP transactions valued at $100,000 or more. The same update reported 3,647 new wallets on the XRP Ledger.

Large transfers can reflect different types of activity, including purchases, sales or movements between wallets. Consequently, the transaction figures alone do not establish whether large holders were accumulating XRP or distributing their holdings.
Ethereum Leads Crypto Social Sentiment With a 2.05 Ratio
Ethereum has attracted substantially more positive than negative commentary, with Santiment recording 2.05 bullish remarks for every bearish one. The firm described the result as FOMO, indicating that enthusiasm around ETH has strengthened relative to sentiment toward Bitcoin and XRP.
Santiment associated the improved mood with Ethereum's rebound above support, demand for staking and expectations surrounding network improvements. The asset's social sentiment had previously registered a ratio of 0.89 on October 1, when bearish comments still outnumbered bullish remarks.
Ethereum's turnaround illustrates how quickly sentiment can shift in cryptocurrency markets. However, a high level of optimism does not necessarily indicate that prices will continue rising. Santiment's analysis also offers a contrarian perspective on periods when enthusiasm becomes particularly strong.
What Santiment's Crypto Sentiment Data Measures
Santiment evaluates language in cryptocurrency discussions using models that classify messages as bullish, neutral or bearish. The firm applies confidence thresholds to determine which messages qualify for its sentiment calculations across social platforms.
These ratios measure the tone of online discussions rather than actual buying and selling activity. They therefore provide a different perspective from blockchain transaction records, trading volumes and executed market orders.
For investors tracking Bitcoin, XRP and Ethereum, the latest figures highlight a clear divergence in public sentiment. Bitcoin and XRP are experiencing more bearish discussion, while Ethereum is attracting strong optimism. Whether those attitudes translate into sustained price movements remains uncertain, as social sentiment is only one factor influencing cryptocurrency markets.
