Abstract to Shut Down on Dec. 15 as Igloo Reports Tens of Millions in Losses

Abstract will shut down on Dec. 15, 2026, after Igloo reported tens of millions in losses and cited costs, liquidity and weaker market demand.

Abstract blockchain project set to shut down on December 15, 2026 as Igloo refocuses on Pudgy Penguins and PENGU

Abstract, the blockchain project backed by Pudgy Penguins parent company Igloo, will shut down on December 15, 2026, after operating costs, limited liquidity, a restricted DeFi ecosystem and weaker market demand made it difficult to reach product-markets fit and profitability.

According to Wu Blockchain, Igloo said it had lost tens of millions of dollars over the past two years while continuing to fund Abstract and work toward a sustainable business model. The decision to close the project marks a shift in the company's priorities as it prepares to concentrate its resources on its other businesses.

Abstract to Close After Two Years of Losses

Igloo attributed Abstract's shutdown to several operating and market pressures, including high costs, limited liquidity and a restricted decentralized finance ecosystem. The company also cited weaker market demand as another factor behind the decision.

The company said it had continued supporting Abstract while financial searching for product-market fit and a path to profitability. Over the past two years, that effort resulted in tens of millions of dollars in losses, according to Igloo.

Abstract's planned closure comes after Igloo raised more than $11 million in July 2024 in a funding round led by Founders Fund. The capital was raised to establish Cube Labs and support the development of Abstract.

Igloo Refocuses on Pudgy Penguins

With Abstract set to shut down on December 15, 2026, Igloo will redirect its resources toward Pudgy Penguins, Pudgy NFTs and PENGU. The company said the refocus will allow it to concentrate on those businesses rather than continue funding Abstract amid the challenges it has faced.

The shutdown therefore represents a change in Igloo's allocation markets of resources following its efforts to develop Abstract and find a viable product-market fit. The company is now turning its attention back to its Pudgy Penguins ecosystem and the associated PENGU token.
