Revolut Wins Conditional OCC Approval for U.S. National Bank Charter
Revolut has received conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish a national bank, marking a significant step in the British fintech company’s expansion into the U.S. banking market.
According to information published by @coinbureau, the approval could eventually allow Revolut Bank US to offer a broader range of regulated banking services, including loans, credit cards and FDIC-insured deposits, alongside access to stablecoins and cryptocurrencies. Revolut has said it remains on track for a proposed 2027 launch, subject to the remaining regulatory approvals.
Revolut Moves Closer to U.S. Banking Launch
The OCC’s decision follows Revolut’s formal application for a U.S. national bank charter in March 2026. The proposed institution, Revolut Bank US, National Association, is designed as a full-service national bank headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut.
The OCC’s corporate applications database shows that the application was received on March 4, 2026, and approved on September 2, 2026. The approval remains conditional, meaning Revolut must satisfy requirements before the bank can begin operating under the proposed charter.
Revolut is still working through applications and approvals involving the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Federal Reserve and the OCC. The company said completion of those processes would be required before the proposed bank can launch in the United States.
Crypto and Banking Expansion
If all required approvals are secured, Revolut says the U.S. bank would be able to provide conventional banking products while financial maintaining access to stablecoins and cryptocurrencies. That combination places the proposed institution within a broader regulatory shift in which U.S. banking authorities have increasingly addressed digital-asset activities within the federal banking framework.
The OCC has also been actively reviewing applications from institutions seeking national charters while offering digital-asset products or services. Its current licensing records include several applicants pursuing national banking markets structures connected to digital assets.
For Revolut, obtaining the conditional OCC approval represents progress toward establishing a direct U.S. banking presence rather than relying solely on partner-bank infrastructure. The remaining FDIC, Federal Reserve and final OCC processes will determine whether that proposed structure can proceed to its targeted 2027 launch.
