Nvidia Says Physical AI Could Be 10 Times Larger Than Digital AI
Nvidia is positioning physical artificial intelligence as a potentially much larger market than today’s digital AI, with the company saying the opportunity could ultimately be 10 times greater because most activity in the global economy still takes place in the physical world.
The claim was highlighted by @Whale Insider, which reported that Nvidia believes physical AI could become 10 times larger than digital AI, citing the view that 90% of the world’s actions still occur in physical environments.
Nvidia Expands Beyond Data-Center AI
Physical AI refers to systems capable of interpreting and interacting with the real world through technologies such as robotics, autonomous vehicles, industrial automation and AI-powered machines.
Nvidia has increasingly built its strategy around this market. The company has released platforms and models designed to help developers train and deploy robots, including its Cosmos world models, Isaac robotics software and GR00T models for humanoid robots.
At its robotics-focused Actuate 2026 event, Nvidia emphasized technologies spanning world foundation models, digital twins, synthetic data and real-time robotic control. The company is seeking to connect AI models developed in simulated environments with machines operating in factories, warehouses and other physical settings.
Robotics Becomes a Major AI Battleground
The shift is already attracting significant industrial interest. Nvidia says companies including ABB Robotics, FANUC, KUKA, Figure, Agility and other robotics developers are using its technology to build physical AI systems.
The broader market is also moving toward commercial deployment. Reuters reported in August that Chinese robotics companies were demonstrating humanoid systems performing tasks including parcel sorting, manufacturing work and household activities, highlighting the industry's transition from research demonstrations toward practical applications.
For Nvidia, the potential market extends well beyond selling chips for AI data centers. Its physical AI strategy combines processors, simulation environments, software and foundation models, creating a broader technology stack for robotics and autonomous systems.
What It Means for the AI Market
If physical AI reaches the scale Nvidia anticipates, demand for accelerated computing could increasingly come from factories, transportation, logistics, healthcare and other real-world applications rather than primarily from cloud-based AI services.
The central question is whether robotics can achieve the reliability, economics and safety required for mass deployment. Nvidia's continued investment in simulation, robot training and physical AI infrastructure indicates that the company is preparing for that transition, but the scale of the eventual market remains dependent on real-world adoption.
The next phase will be measured less by demonstrations and more by how quickly AI-powered machines move into sustained commercial operations.
