MOEX to Launch Crypto Perpetual Futures for Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and More

MOEX will launch perpetual futures for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and TRX on September 22 for qualified investors.
Moscow Exchange to launch perpetual futures linked to Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and TRX for qualified investors on September 22.

Russia’s biggest stock exchange, Moscow Exchange (MOEX), is set to expand its cryptocurrency derivatives offering with perpetual futures linked to five major digital assets, according to BSCN.

The new contracts will track indices for Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), XRP and TRX, with trading scheduled to begin on September 22. Access will be restricted to qualified investors under existing exchange regulations.

MOEX Adds Five Crypto Assets to Futures Market

The new perpetual futures contracts will cover five cryptocurrency indices: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and TRX.

Unlike conventional futures with a fixed expiration date, perpetual futures are designed to remain open without a predetermined maturity date. In the case of MOEX’s planned products, however, access will be limited to qualified investors under the exchange’s existing rules.

The contracts will be quoted in U.S. dollars while settlement will take place in Russian rubles, according to the information reported by BSCN.

The structure gives eligible participants exposure to cryptocurrency-linked derivatives through MOEX’s established trading infrastructure while using rubles for settlement.

Crypto Futures Activity Already Reaches RUB 600 Billion

MOEX’s expansion comes after substantial activity in cryptocurrency futures already offered by the exchange.

According to MOEX, more than 72,000 qualified investors have traded crypto futures on the exchange since last summer. Trading volume in these instruments has reached more than RUB 600 billion.

Those figures cover crypto futures activity reported by MOEX and provide context for the exchange’s decision to add further cryptocurrency-linked contracts.

The upcoming products will broaden the number of major cryptocurrencies represented in MOEX’s derivatives market, with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and TRX indices forming the basis of the new contracts.

Access Restricted to Qualified Investors

The planned launch does not make the products available to all MOEX participants. Trading access will be limited to qualified investors in accordance with existing exchange regulations.

The restriction is an important part of the offering because it determines which market participants can trade the new cryptocurrency derivatives. BSCN did not provide additional details about eligibility criteria beyond the reference to existing exchange regulations.

MOEX also did not disclose in the source post whether additional cryptocurrency-linked contracts would be introduced beyond the five assets covered by the September 22 launch.

Trading Set to Begin September 22

The new perpetual futures will track the Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and TRX indices and will be quoted in dollars but settled in rubles.

The launch date specified by MOEX is September 22, when qualified investors will gain access to the five new contracts. The exchange’s reported figures show that crypto futures trading has already generated more than RUB 600 billion in volume since the activity began last summer.
