Kalshi in Talks to Raise $1 Billion at $40 Billion Valuation
Prediction market platform Kalshi is in advanced talks to raise about $1 billion from existing and new investors at a valuation of roughly $40 billion, according to Reuters, in a funding round that would significantly increase the company's valuation from earlier this year.
Wu Blockchain reported that investors including Tiger Global and Dragoneer are participating in discussions around the proposed financing. The round is expected to close in the coming weeks, although the terms remain subject to change before completion.
Sequoia and Wellington Discuss Leading the Round
Existing investors Sequoia Capital and Wellington Management are in talks to lead the new financing, according to the report. Their involvement would bring returning institutional investors into a round that also includes new participants.
The proposed $40 billion valuation would represent an increase of roughly 82% from Kalshi's $22 billion valuation following its $1 billion financing in May.
The sharp increase comes as prediction markets have attracted growing attention and competition. Kalshi has expanded its platform while continuing to operate in the regulated U.S. prediction-market sector.
Kalshi Explores Broader Expansion
The company has also been looking beyond its core prediction-market business. Reuters reported that Kalshi aims to expand into broader asset classes, putting it into competition with established financial-market operators.
The expansion comes as prediction markets develop into a larger segment of the financial and trading landscape. Kalshi's growth has also placed it in direct competition with Polymarket, another major prediction-market platform.
Polymarket is separately seeking about $1 billion in new funding, according to the report cited by Wu Blockchain.
Potential IPO Discussions Underway
Alongside the latest private fundraising discussions, Kalshi has held early talks about a potential initial public offering in the coming years.
An IPO remains a longer-term possibility rather than an announced transaction, and the company has not set a specific timetable for going public in the information cited by Wu Blockchain.
For now, the immediate development is the proposed $1 billion financing, which could value Kalshi at approximately $40 billion if the round financial closes on the reported terms.
