Canadian XRP ETF Options Receive Approval for U.S. Market

Canadian XRP ETF options tied to Evolve and Purpose funds gain U.S. approval, expanding regulated access to XRP exposure through derivatives.
XRP ETF options linked to Canadian Evolve and Purpose funds gain approval for sale in the United States.

Options tied to two Canadian XRP exchange-traded funds have been authorized for sale in the United States, giving investors another regulated way to gain exposure to XRP without directly holding the cryptocurrency.

According to The Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation disclosed the registrations in a Form 8-K filing dated September 9, 2026. The approved contracts are linked to the Evolve XRP ETF and Purpose XRP ETF, both of which have traded on the Montreal Exchange since early 2026 under Canada’s financial market framework.

The registration places the XRP-linked options within the same regulated derivatives category as options associated with Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana. The development expands the range of exchange-traded instruments available to U.S. institutions seeking exposure to XRP.

Unlike direct ownership of XRP, the options provide exposure through regulated financial contracts. Eligible investors can use the instruments to hedge existing positions or trade movements in XRP volatility without holding the underlying digital asset.

Federal Register notices established the regulatory basis for offering the Canadian contracts to U.S. investors. Those notices classified XRP as a qualifying digital commodity under the framework governing the registered investment products.

XRP ETF Options Expand Regulated U.S. Exposure

The approval extends an investment structure that has already developed in Canada, where XRP exchange-traded products have gained a presence across traditional financial markets.

Canada’s major banks have also disclosed limited exposure to XRP-related investment products. National Bank of Canada reported an investment of approximately $330,000 in the Bitwise XRP ETF through regulatory filings, while Bank of Montreal disclosed investments in XRP products as part of broader portfolio diversification.

Although the reported allocations are relatively small, they indicate participation by traditional financial institutions through regulated cryptocurrency investment vehicles.

Such products can provide institutions with standardized custody, reporting, pricing and risk-management structures rather than requiring direct management of cryptocurrency holdings.

Canadian XRP Market Infrastructure Extends Into U.S.

Canada established additional XRP investment infrastructure in 2025 with the launch of North America’s first physically backed spot XRP ETFs. The products trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange and use the CME CF XRP-Dollar Reference Rate.

Eligible Canadian investors can also hold XRP ETFs through tax-advantaged investment accounts, including Tax-Free Savings Accounts and Registered Retirement Savings Plans.

The broader development of XRP-related financial products has occurred alongside regulatory work involving stablecoins and digital assets, while organizations supporting the XRP Ledger have continued developing the network’s ecosystem.

The latest U.S. registrations extend part of that established Canadian market structure across the border. For investors and institutions, the options provide another route to XRP exposure through supervised financial markets without requiring direct ownership of XRP or management of private wallets.
