Bitcoin Whale Moves $86 Million From BTC to Ethereum and Stakes Entire Position
A cryptocurrency whale has shifted nearly $87 million from Bitcoin into Ethereum, buying 34,422 ETH and staking the entire position after selling 1,107 BTC through Hyperliquid over five days.
Lookonchain reported that the investor sold the Bitcoin for approximately $86.76 million before acquiring Ethereum for about $86.5 million. The whale subsequently staked all of the newly purchased ETH rather than keeping the assets immediately available for trading.
The transaction represents a significant portfolio allocation toward Ethereum, but it does not establish that the investor intends to hold the position for a particular period or indicate that other large holders are making similar moves. Large cryptocurrency holders can rebalance portfolios for a range of reasons, including market conditions, technical signals, liquidity needs and risk management.
Bitcoin Whale Shifts Capital Into Ethereum
The size and structure of the transaction distinguish it from a routine spot-market swap. After converting the Bitcoin position, the investor committed the entire Ethereum allocation to staking.
That decision reduces the immediate availability of the ETH for trading, although it does not by itself establish the investor's broader market outlook. A single whale transaction also provides limited evidence about overall capital flows between Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Bitcoin was trading near $81,500 while testing resistance around $81,500 to $82,000. The area had previously presented difficulties for BTC in May, making a sustained move above it an important technical level for the ongoing recovery.

Bitcoin remained above the major moving averages cited in the market analysis, while shorter-term averages had turned upward as buyers recovered from lower levels. A confirmed move above $82,000 and then $83,000 could clear the main resistance area identified in the analysis.
A renewed rejection, however, could shift attention back toward support between $79,000 and $80,000.
Ethereum Gains Momentum as Whale Allocation Expands
Ethereum has shown stronger recent momentum after moving above a consolidation range between $2,400 and $2,550.
ETH was trading near $2,649 and reached $2,700 during the session while remaining above its major moving averages. The next resistance area was identified between $2,700 and $2,750.
Ethereum's relative strength index remained elevated but had not reached the extreme levels seen during previous rallies, according to the market analysis cited in the source material.
The performance gap between the two largest cryptocurrencies also provided context for the whale's allocation. Ethereum gained about 3% during the comparable session, while Bitcoin rose approximately 1%.
That difference may help explain the timing of the transaction, but it is not sufficient to establish that a broader rotation from Bitcoin into Ethereum is underway.
Staking Adds a Longer-Term Element to the Trade
The whale's decision to stake the entire 34,422 ETH position gives the transaction a different structure from simply exchanging BTC for ETH and leaving the new holdings liquid.
Staking commits the acquired Ethereum to the network rather than keeping the full position immediately available for market transactions. Even so, the transaction alone cannot establish the investor's long-term intentions.
For a broader shift in market preference toward Ethereum to become clearer, additional large holders would need to make comparable allocations. Until then, the transaction remains an individual example of capital moving between the two largest crypto assets.
The combination of Ethereum's recent price momentum and the whale's decision to stake the full allocation provides context for the trade, but broader market flows will be needed to determine whether it represents a wider trend.
