AMC CEO Calls on Robinhood to Halt AMC Stock Token Trading

AMC CEO Adam Aron challenges Robinhood’s AMC Stock Token, questioning its legality and AMC’s lack of authorization amid a MEME token surge.

AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron has called on Robinhood to halt trading in a tokenized version of AMC stock, arguing that the product has no connection to, authorization from or endorsement by the cinema operator.

Aron described Robinhood’s AMC Stock Token as “contemptible, outrageous, disgusting, inexcusable” and questioned whether the product complies with U.S. securities laws. According to information published by @WuBlockchain, AMC has no involvement in the token, while outside securities counsel is reviewing the matter.

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev responded to Aron’s criticism with a brief question: “What’s the concern?”

Robinhood’s Stock Tokens Draw Regulatory Questions

Robinhood’s documentation describes its Stock Tokens as tokenized debt securities issued by a Jersey-based entity. The instruments are designed to provide holders with economic exposure to underlying shares but do not grant the same ownership rights as directly holding the corresponding stock.

That distinction is central to the dispute. While tokenized securities can provide a blockchain-based mechanism for gaining economic exposure to traditional financial assets, their legal and regulatory treatment depends on the structure of the instrument, the issuing entity and the jurisdictions involved.

Aron’s comments bring those questions into sharper focus for publicly traded companies whose shares are represented through such products without direct corporate authorization or participation.

The dispute also illustrates the broader intersection between traditional equities and digital-asset infrastructure. Tokenized financial products have increasingly been positioned as a bridge between conventional markets and blockchain-based trading systems, but their legal status and investor protections remain important considerations.

Robinhood-Linked MEME Token Rallies

The controversy coincided with a sharp move in Robinhood Chain meme token MEME, which is paired with tokenized AMC in its liquidity pool.

MEME climbed to a market capitalization of about $125.6 million and briefly reached approximately $151.2 million, according to the figures cited by @WuBlockchain.

The move underscores how developments involving tokenized traditional assets can spill into associated digital-asset markets, particularly where liquidity pools link tokenized securities with other blockchain-based assets.

For AMC, the immediate issue remains whether the company’s name and economic exposure are being used through a financial product it says it neither authorized nor endorsed. With outside securities counsel reviewing the matter, the next significant markets development will be whether AMC takes formal legal or regulatory action against the token’s issuer or Robinhood.
